Lukas Martens establishes a new World Swimming Record in 400 meters for men

Stockholm – The Olympic champion Lukas Martens of Germany has broken the 400 -meter free -style record in the open swimming stocol.

Martens became the first swimmer to break the 3 -minute and 40 second barrier, ending Saturday’s race with a time of 3: 39.96.

That was 0.11 seconds better than the previous record established by German partner Paul Biedermann in 2009, according to Olympics.com.

The Biedermann brand had been established using the “super costumes” resistance reducers that were finally banned in 2010.

The 23 -year -old Martens won the 400 -meter Free Gold Medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with a time of 3: 41.78.
