Tacoma, Wash. – A baby sea lion was filmed with an artificial seaweed strip that interpreted intricate circles of rhythmic gymnastics through the waters of an aquarium in the state of Washington.
Although he is only 9 months old and still depends on his mother’s milk, Pepper has become the Point Defiance zoo AND The most acrobatic marine lion of the acrobatic, said Noelle Tremonti, a biologist of the aquarium staff.
“We always joke a little that is acting as a tape dancer because it looks so artistic under water and also surprisingly beautiful underwater,” he said, “but it also makes me very happy to see her interact with enrichment in such a focused way.”
The vertiginous circles made in Tacoma, Washington, about 34 miles (55 kilometers) south of Seattle, last month are part of the many enrichment activities of the Sea.
The strip, which is made of heavy -duty felt material, is small enough for the pepper grip and manipulate, said Tremonti. In the video, the lion of the sea throws it with its fin while pursuing the end of the tail to create the funny circles and then fastened in the strip with the mouth.
Pepper was the first marine lion born in the aquarium in his 120 years of history. Now 74 pounds (33.5 kilograms), recently ate his first fish, although he only likes to play with them.
But the favorite activity of the playful and inquisitive marine Leon is to turn with seaweed strips.
“She will dedicate a good part of her day to find different things to do with seaweed strips,” Tremonti said. “It’s a lot of fun to see.”
