The French prime minister, Emmanuel Macron, joined the growing criticisms of Trump tariffs of the allies that label the “brutal and unfounded” rates.
In a speech pronounced in the Elysee Palace while hosted by representatives of the most affected sectors, he declared that the measures will leave the US economy, both companies and citizens, “weaker and poorer.”
Macron also requested a suspension of investments planned in the United States by European companies until there is greater clarity about commercial policies.
He promised that “there will be a European response.”
The first will come in mid -April in rates that have already been announced in steel and aluminum, and then a “more massive” response about yesterday’s announcement will reach the end of the month.
