Washington – The United States requests for unemployment benefits fell again last week as the labor market continues to sustain despite the fears of a recession induced by the rate.
Applications for unemployment claim fell from 9,000 to 215,000 for the week that ended on April 12, the Labor Department said Thursday. That is well below the forecast of new applications analysts of 225,000 applications.
Weekly applications for unemployment benefits are considered a proxy for layoffs, and have mainly maintained between 200,000 and 250,000 in recent years.
The average of four weeks of applications, which can soften some of the changes from week to week, fell by 2,500 to 220,750.
The total number of Americans who received unemployment benefits for the week of April 5 increased by 41,000 to 1.89 million.
