The poet Cyrus Cassells receives a Jackson poetry award of $ 100,000 for 'exceptional talent'

New York – An admired poet and for a long time whose subjects go from school integration to the memories of the Holocaust survivors. A $ 100,000 prize given by “exceptional talent”.

Poets AND The writers announced on Monday that Cyrus Cassells is this year’s winner of the Jackson Poetry award, which was established in 2007 and has previously been awarded to JOY HARJO,Sonia Sánchez and Carl Phillips, among others. Cassells, former Texas poet, has published 11 books, including “more than peace and cypresses”, “The soul makes a path through the cry” and compilation “everything in life is resurrection.”

“In a world that is increasingly unstable, the brave compassion of these poems, both deep and hard, is something strange and precious,” the judges’ appointment reads partly. “They are intimate with pain, yes, with betrayal, racism and cruelty, and also show us how to recognize and protect the jokes of hope they survive.”

Poets AND Writers is a non -profit organization established in 1970 with a mission “to promote the professional development of poets and writers, promote communication throughout the literary community and help create an environment in which literature” is widely appreciated.
