The country music star, Johnny Rodríguez, a popular Mexican-American singer better known for the successes headed by the graphics in the 1970s, including “I simply cannot get her out of my mind”, “Ridin ‘My Thumb to Mexico” and “That is the way love goes,” he has died. He was 73 years old.
Rodríguez died on Friday, according to the statements of social networks published by his daughter, Aubry Rodríguez. She said she died peacefully and surrounded by family.
“Dad was not only a legendary musician whose art touched millions worldwide, but also a husband, father and deeply dear brother, whose warmth, humor and compassion shaped the life of all those who met him,” he wrote.
Rodríguez was appointed the most promising male vocalist in the 1972 Academy of Country Music Awards, and his debut album, “presenting Johnny Rodríguez,” obtained a nomination for the album of the year in 1973.
Rodríguez was born in Sabinal, Texas, a small city about 60 miles (97 kilometers) west of San Antonio and about 90 miles (145 kilometers) east of the border between the United States and Mexico. It was included in the Fame Hall of Country Music in Texas in 2007.
