New York – After hitting a two -run shot for the New York Mets on Tuesday night, Jared Young was reminded that it was his first major league homer in 613 days.
“I felt so long, yes,” he said. “It’s the best league in the world, so you must play everything possible to be here and succeed here. But I’m glad to return, and that felt good.”
Called from the minors on Saturday after spending part of last season in South Korea, the 29 -year -old player from Canada helped boost the Mets to A 6-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Young gave New York a 4-2 advantage in the first entry with An impulse on the fence of the right field That marked his third Longball race and first in the big leagues since September 22, 2023, for Chicago Colorado puppies.
He also delivered a double beaten to the center of the right that established the sacrifice fly of Jeff McNeil in the third, giving the young hits of multiple strangers for the first time in his 26 major league games.
“He looked great. He has been having very good shifts to bat and I felt that tonight you could really see what he can do,” said the toleter of the Mets, Pete Alonso, who threw a two -run of two races from his two batters before Young connected.
“He is a great guy to have. He is not only a great artist, but I mean, the two days he has been here, he has been a very good teammate. So it has been a pleasure to have so far.”
With the designated hitter Jesse Winker (also a left-handed batter) on the list of injured, the Mets took the young triple-A Syracuse to face a chain of dating entrants in recent days.
It began four games in a row and impressed the manager Carlos Mendoza with the way he controls the attack zone, but Young’s home run on Tuesday was his first success for New York.
“Look, he has a chance,” said Mendoza. “He is back in the big leagues after a large amount of grinding. It is already a minor leagues, up and down, going abroad, he is having a chance here in the United States, and here we are giving him a chance and he is taking advantage of it. As I said, I like the shifts to the bat and it was good to see him get some results today.”
Young played in small schools in Oklahoma (Connors State College) and North Dakota (Minot State University) before being selected by the puppies in the 15th round of the 2017 Draft Amateur of Old Dominion in Virginia.
He made his debut in the Major Leagues with Chicago in September 2022 and received 47 appearances on the plate in 2023. Young was claimed by the cardinals of St. Louis and played 74 Triple-A Memphis games last year before being released on July 30.
So he signed with the Doosan Bears in South Korea and hit .326 with 10 homers and 39 races promoted in 38 games in the KBB, where he was a teammate with the left -handed of the Mets Brandon Waddell, Another international success story.
New York signed Young last December and sent it to Syracuse, where the season began in the injured list.
But once he got healthy, he hit the triple A launch, hitting .259 with a percentage of .393 and percentage of slugging of .533. He had five home runs, five doubles, 21 ranked races and 12 walks in 22 games before being called.
“You believe in yourself and believe in the player you are, I feel that he takes care of many things,” said Young. “There will be many ups and downs in any race: I don’t care if you are playing baseball or do something. But I think when you believe in yourself you can get where you want to get.”
When asked how he felt on the plate in the elderly, Young said: “quite comfortable.”
“Trying to keep things as similar as possible to all the baseball you have played, either in the minors or in the big leagues, wherever you are,” he explained. “You know, just put the good shifts on the bat and be hard.”
Certainly it was Tuesday night, reaching sixth place in a dangerous alignment of the Mets presented by some of the biggest baseball stars in Alonso, Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor.
“It’s amazing. It’s great,” said Young. “You take a look at this team from top to bottom, I mean, quite good ball players and winning many games. So, so that they throw me, I feel that I belong and I feel that it is a good place and a good adjustment, and I hope we can continue winning some ball games.”
