London – A familiar face for “Doctor Who” fans is joining the long -term British science fiction series when Ncuti Gatwa leaves the main role after two seasons.
At the end of Saturday’s season, Gatwa’s Lord regenerated and fans saw Billie Piper, who played the character Rose Tyler for 35 episodes between 2005 and 2013. Tyler was a fellow version of the doctor played by Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.
Producers keep Piper’s new role for now.
“What and why it is back to see,” said the BBC in a statement after the end was issued.
“It is an honor and a scream to welcome the Tardis, but how and why and who is still a story to tell,” said the Russell T Davies showrunner in a statement.
Piper said that “Doctor Who” has provided some of his best memories and that he could not miss the opportunity to return.
“It is no secret how much I love this program, and I have always said that I would love to return … but who, how, why and when, you will only have to wait and see,” he said.
If Piper becomes the doctor, it would be the third woman to fill the famous shoes.
The Gatwa, born in Rwanda, raised in Scotland, 29, was the first black actor to direct the program, but was not the first black doctor: Jo Martin played “Fugitive Doctor” in several episodes. Gatwa assumed the role of Jodie Whittaker in 2023.
