Marengo, Ohio – A deputy of the Sheriff of Ohio who responded to a call of domestic violence in a house was deadly shot by a suspect that was injured, authorities said.
The Morrow County Sheriff’s office said the shooting occurred on Monday night in the city of Marengo, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) north of Columbus. The name of the deputy has not been released.
In a statement published in the department Facebook pageMorrow County Sheriff, John Hinton, said the deputy was shot shortly after arriving at the house. The deputy and the suspect were taken to a hospital, where the deputy was declared dead a short time later.
“There are no words to express the pain our office feels,” said Hinton.
The suspect remains hospitalized in serious condition, said Hinton. No other injuries in the shooting were reported.
The Delaware County Sheriff will lead the investigation into the shooting, with the assistance of the State Criminal Investigation Office.
