New York – Jasen Green and Jamiya Neal scored 19 points in Creighton’s second victory for 71-62 over UConn No. 3-Sember Friday at the semifinals of the Big East Conference Tournament.
Creighton, sown number 2, will face St. John’s in Saturday’s championship game.
The Alex Karaman tray for the third sowed huskies tied the game with 28-28 with less than seven minutes in the first half, but the Bluejays ran 11 consecutive points, six per Green, to take an advantage of 46-35 in the break. Green scored 15 points in the first half when hitting the seven field goal attempts, including a triple. Neal hit 4 of 5 from the floor in the first half, hitting its two attempts of 3 points, to score 13 points before the intermediate.
Neal also added five rebounds for the Bluejays (24-9). Green finished 8 of 10 from the field. Ryan Kalkbrenner shot 5 by 13, including 0 for 3 from beyond the arch to finish with 12 points.
Solomon Ball led the Huskies (23-10) in annotations, ending with 13 points. Liam McNeeley added 13 points for UConn. Hassan Diarra had 11 points and six rebounds.
Creighton took the lead with remaining 5:35 in the first half and never looked back. Green led his team to score with 15 points in the first half to help put them ahead 46-35 at the break. Uconn surpassed Creighton in the second half for two points, with Kalkbrenner scoring a maximum of a team eight points after the break.
