Lake Havasu City, Arizona. – A fast boat went in the air and made a complete turned back while running at approximately 200 mph (322 km / h) before colliding against A Arizona Lake.
Two runners inside the boat covered in the boat survived the event, which saw the boat exceed 30 feet (9 meters) in the air. They carried harnesses and helmets, and “they were a little beaten,” according to a social media post on Facebook by Freedom One Racing and an account of a career witness.
Saturday’s accident took place in a 3/4 miles (1.2 kilometer) course to an annual quick boat race.
The flying boat still managed to cross the finish line and win the contest registering a maximum speed of 200.1 mph (322 kph), said the editor of SpeedBoat Ray Lee magazine.
Lee said that the double peel skater boat is designed to get up and hydroplano through the water surface. Wind conditions and propeller adjustments called ornaments probably contributed to the boat taking the flight, he said.
Lee says that it is an inherently dangerous sport, although the courses have shortened from an anterior length of 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) that produced speeds greater than 240 mph (386 kph). Security precautions include reinforced cabins with underwater diving equipment.
Freedom One Racing released a video that said that its boat operators came out safely and that the ship now returned to a trailer. The video showed extensive damage to the boat, including the splintered glass fiber.
Representatives of Freedom One Racing did not immediately respond to email and telephone messages. The team emphasizes the collection of funds for charity.
