A “number of people” was killed and others were injured on Saturday when a vehicle got into a crowd at a street festival in Vancouver, police said.

The crowds had gathered in the center of the Canadian city to celebrate Lapu Lapu Day, Mayor Ken Sim saying In a statement. A vehicle “led to a crowd” at the festival near the intersection of E 41st Avenue and Fraser Street around 8 pm, police said.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected and with the Filipina de Vancouver community during this incredibly difficult time,” Sim said, describing the incident as “horrible.”
According to the organizers, a block party that celebrated the Filipina and Lapu-Lapu culture, a national hero of the Philippines, extended until 8 pm on Saturday, according to the organizers.
