Lionel Messi has revealed his favorite goal, and was not one of the hundreds he has scored with his legendary left foot.
It was a header, one that sealed Barcelona Final of the 2009 Champions League Win on Manchester United.
The Inter Miami star, the Argentine World Cup champion and the eight -time Ballon D’O or made the announcement on Thursday, saying that the goal of 16 years ago is above the many who has registered for clubs and countries during his incomparable career.
“I have scored many goals that could have been even more beautiful and valuable, also because of its importance, but the header in the champions league final against Manchester United has always been my favorite,” said Messi.
Messi had many options to choose from: he has scored more than 800 goals for Argentina, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami.
The reason why one chose to stand out is for charity. A representation of that goal becomes a work of art, one that will be auctioned to raise money for several causes. Messi and the artist, Refik Anadol, will sign the art piece, which will be revealed by the Christie’s auction house on June 11.
There will be a public exhibition period, together with an auction from July 15 to 22. An Inter Miami statement on Thursday said that people within Christie’s “suggestion, this unique work has all the characteristics of a record sale.”
“Leo Messi’s goal is more than a decisive moment in sport: it is a complex expression of human intention, memory and movement,” Anadol said. “By integrating biosensation technologies and advanced AI systems trained in data from that singular event, we are exploring a new border in the art of AI, one in which the data becomes emotion and memory becomes a form.”
The goal put Barcelona 2-0 in the 70th minute, and that was the final score of the game. It was like few others in Messi’s career.
Xavi Hernández de Barcelona went down the right side of the field and placed a chip in the penalty box. Messi, not known by the headers, jumped to reach the ball that was estimated at almost 9 feet (2.70 meters) in the air, redirecting it with his head beyond the Manchester United Edwin Van de Sar.
Messi fell to the ground, losing one of his tacos in the process. He took the shoe and went on celebration.
“I already knew how special is the work of Refik Anadol, and after we had the opportunity to meet in Miami, it will be exciting to see how a goal can transform, a moment into sports, into a unique work of art, like the ones he believes,” said Messi.
The sale of the sale will benefit multiple non -profit organizations, the team said, including the Global Association of the Inter Miami CF Foundation with UNICEF.
