Evans, Georgia – Megha Ganne established the A Augusta National Women’s Fans record on Wednesday with a 9-low 63 in Champions Retreat, giving him a two-shooting advantage over the defending champion Lottie Woad, who did everything possible to locate Ganne.
The score was lower than usual in Champions Retreat, where the two initial rounds are carried out against the top 30 that make the cut play the final round in Augusta National, which houses the masters next week.
The weather was warm and the grass was still relatively soft, and Ganne took advantage of a ghostless round. Playing early and starting at the back, Stanford’s Junior ran out three consecutive Birdies early and saved the pair with an 18 -foot putt in the fifth hole, his 14th of the day.
The only disappointment was a couple of three whores in the ninth hole 5.
“You believe it or not, I had a dream last night that I shot 61,” Golf Channel said. “I didn’t tell anyone. I didn’t want to put bad omens in the air.”
And she almost reached the three putt in her final hole, although Ganne had few complaints. His 63 broke through two shots, the previous brand in the hands of Rose Zhang, his former Stanford teammate who won the Anwa two years ago.
Woad more who defended himself despite seeing such a low number on the board before she turned.
“I saw that I was 9 years old and I thought I needed to put something,” Woad said.
He had four birdies in the back nine, losing a chance at par 5 14, but compensating that with a 45 -foot putt Birdie on the 15th.
No one has won consecutive since the Anwa began in 2019 and quickly became one of the main fans championships for women. That is due in large part to the fact that the entire field receives a round of practice at the house of the Masters on Friday before those who make the cut of Augusta National for the title on Saturday.
Anna Davis, who won the Anwa three years ago at age 16 and now plays in Auburn, said Ganne establishing the early tone probably contributed to the low score. For most players, the goal is to make the cut and have the opportunity to compete in Augusta National.
“Now it’s not, ‘I want to make the cut.’ He’s just trying to catch it,” Davis said after 69.
Kiara Romero, Farah O’Keefe and Amanda Sambach were at 67. They were among 29 players in the field of the 71 players who broke the pair. The US female amateur champion, Rianne Malixi, had to retire due to a back injury.
Ganne is playing Anwa for the fifth time, since he advanced to the final round each of the last two years. She has existed enough time to realize that there is still a long way ahead.
“Enjoy today and take the rest of the week as it comes,” Ganne said. “But today it was quite special.”
