Marco Kasper scores in OT to lift red wings beyond lightning, 4-3

Tampa, Florida – Marco Kasper scored his second goal of the game at 3:22 of extra time to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 victory over the Lightning of Tampa Bay on Friday night.

Patrick Kane and Tyler Motte also scored for Detroit. Alex Lyon stopped 18 shots to help Red Wings keep alive with their thin hopes of playoffs.

Gage Goncalves scored twice and Anthony Cirelli had a goal and two points for Lightning. Brandon Hagel had two assists, and Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 22 salvages.

Cirelli scored in a partial getaway 1:01 in the game.

Kane tied it at 4:07 of the second period. Detroit took the lead with remaining 3:23 in the second when a shot from the point hit the boots and returned to the fold where Motte put it.

Goncalves pulled Tampa Bay even 1:15 later, pushing a loose album in the paint before Lyon could cover it. Goncalves scored his second of the night 1:38 in the third for his first game of multiple goals in his career.

Kasper tied it with 7:01 remaining in the third.

Red Wings: D Simon Arvidsson appeared in his number 100 game. … The beginning for Lyon was the first since March 27 in Ottawa when he was removed after allowing three goals in seven shots.

Lightning: The Luke Glendening center will lose the rest of the regular season with an unleashed injury after leaving Wednesday. … RW Nikita Kucherov appeared in her 800 game.

Oliver Bjorkstrand had a closed opportunity in his reverse that was partially blocked by Ben Chiarot and then hit the crossbar and left the remaining 2:46 to play with the game tied 3-3.

Tampa Bay fell to 36-1-3 in the season with an advantage by entering the third period, with two overtime losses in the last four games.

Tampa Bay receives Buffalo on Sunday, and Detroit receives Dallas on Monday.
