New York – A man in a stolen Porsche who tried to evade the police was shot dead by an officer on Tuesday night in Brooklyn, according to the New York Police Department.
The 28 -year -old was driving for Belt Parkway just after 8 pm when the officers marked the vehicle as “suspicious,” said New York Police Department Chief John Chell, during a press conference. The officers checked the dish and discovered that it was stolen from Pennsylvania.
The officers tried to stop the car, but the driver left the park road and then returned to him, Chell said. When they tried to intercept the car again, it quickly led to a service road where several officers had established a road block.
The Porsche “came close” from one of the officers and almost hit him, said Chell. An officer shot the driver and the car continued and hit another apartment vehicle, he said.
A passenger in the car was arrested and the officers “made rescue measures in the driver,” Chell said. The driver then died in a hospital.
The driver was on federal probation for interstate transport of stolen vehicles from Pennsylvania, said Chell.
Additional information about the driver was not provided immediately.
