Lou Lamoriello is outside as general manager of the islanders of New York, after the team said on Tuesday that the NHL executive contract was not being renewed.
The managing partner John Collins will direct a search to find the next general manager of the islanders.
Lamoriello, 82, spent the last seven seasons executing its hockey operations with a close connection with the property. Before that, he worked as president and GM of the New Jersey Devils of 1987-2015, a section during which they won the Stanley Cup three times.
A member of the Hall of Fame in the Category of Constructors, the approach of the old School of Lamoriello, with everything, from not sharing information to prohibit facial hair for players and coaches, made it a rarity in modern hockey and possibly played a role in the stagnation of the franchise once widely successful.
