City City, Kan. – Kevin Kelsy scored in each half when Portland Timbers uploaded their undefeated streak with a 4-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.
The Timbers jumped to the front in the 10th minute when David Ayala used an assistance from David da Costa to score his first goal this season and his second in 63 appearances with the club. Da Costa’s assistance was the second in his first season in the League.
Sporting KC matched the score six minutes later in a goal without attending Shapi Suleymanov, his first netter in his first season.
Portland recovered the advantage when Ayala established Kelsy’s first goal. The attendance was the first for Ayala this season and the second of his career.
Sporting KC responded again with the equalizer, tieding him in 2-2 in half with a penalty goal by Joveljic in the 33rd minute. The fifth highest goal in Joveljic in his first season with the club came after Antony Alves Santos de los Timbers called Suleymanov.
Portland took the lead for four minutes in the second half, when Antony scored an assistance in the third goal of Kelsy’s campaign. Kelsy scored six goals in 23 appearances as a 19 -year -old rookie last season.
A goal of the defender of KC Jansen Miller limited the score in the 54th minute.
James Pantemis ended with four salvages for the Timbers (4-2-2).
John Pulskamp saved five shots for Sporting Kc (1-6-1).
The Timbers won on the road for the first time in 10 attempts against Sporting KC to tie the series of all time with 9-9-7.
Portland has 3-0-2 in its last five with bleached in its two previous road games.
The Timbers will receive Los Angeles FC on Saturday. Sporting KC travels to play the earthquakes of San José on Saturday.
