Louisville, Ky. – Jockey Junior Alvarado He is considering appealing a fine and a suspension for using his whip eight times in sovereignty to win the Kentucky derby May 3.
Alvarado was fined $ 62,000 and suspended two days by the Racing Horse integrity and security authority, whose rules allow a rider to use a whip six times in a race.
He has 10 days to inform Hisa if he plans to appeal.
“I would like to finish and leave it behind me, I don’t want to take this extra day, but at the same time I don’t want to give up as easily as if they were correct,” Alvarado told the form of the Daily Racing last weekend. “I would like to move on and fix something. As you can see, the sanctions we are facing are unfair. Maybe (appealing) we can get something good about this.”
On December 1, it was discovered that Alvarado had used his whip seven times to win the Cherokee mile of $ 250,000, also in Churchill Downs.
He met with Churchill Downs by video last week to discuss the derby.
“I didn’t abuse the horse,” Alvarado told Drf. “No one can tell me, even if they can show that I hit the horse twice, it was abused, it is simply ridiculous. The punishment does not fit the crime and I do not think there is any crime.”
If Alvarado does not appeal, the suspension of two days from May 29 to 30 will serve. It has its headquarters in New York, which is not running those days.
