Johnson says that the Republican Party of the House of Representatives' is on the way to approve the Trump agenda bill after Friday failure

The president of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said on Sunday that the Republicans are still “on the way” to approve the “One Big Beautiful Bill Law” for the “weekend”, after the opposition of some funds of the Republican and moderate party prevented the measure from moving forward on Friday.

“This is a big thing. We cannot fail, and we will do it for the American people,” Johnson told “Fox News Sunday.”

The speaker’s comments occur when the Chamber Budget Committee plans to meet again at 10 pm on Sunday to vote to advance the bill that covers the agenda of President Donald Trump, a necessary step to put the package on the floor of the camera to vote later this week before the deadline of the day of the fallen.

If the Budget Committee clears the package, Johnson said the Rules Committee will hold its meeting in the middle of the week, bringing a vote on the floor at the end of the week.

The key components of the bill seek to provide important tax exemptions by reducing spending elsewhere, including hundreds of billions in cuts to Medicaid.

On Friday, a budget fund group voted on Friday to block the progress package, partly for concerns with a start date for Medicaid’s work requirements, challenging Trump and Republican leaders. As the legislation is currently written, Medicaid requirements enter into force in 2029. However, conservatives are pressing so that the requirements begin much earlier, as soon as 2027.

“Some of the states have: take some time. We have learned in this process to change their systems and make sure that these strict requirements that we will put in that to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse can be implemented. Then, we are working with them. [hardliners] To ensure which is the earliest possible date to present something that really is useful. I think we have to commit to that. I think we will resolve it, ”said Johnson.

What about the Senate?

Johnson said both cameras have been working on “nearby coordination” and hopes that the Senate will not alter the Chamber’s bill.

“The package we send there will be one that was very carefully negotiated and delicately balanced, and we hope they [Senate] Do not make many modifications, because that will ensure your passage quickly, ”he said.

Johnson added that Congress must approve the package before July 4, especially given the “deadline” of mid -July to address the debt limit to avoid breach.

“We have to do this and take it to the president’s desk for that great celebration on Independence Day. And I am convinced that we can,” he added.

Reaction to Moody’s reduction on debt

On Friday, Moody’s qualifications reduced the United States government of a Gold AAA AAA AA1 rating, citing their inability to stop a growing tide of debt.

Moody’s is the last of the three main qualification agencies to reduce federal government credit. Standard & Poor’s degraded in 2011 and Fitch classifications followed in 2023.

“Moody’s is not incorrect, but that is why this emphasizes the need of the legislation we are talking about, clippings of historical expenses. I mean, this will help change the trajectory for the US economy and send that message of stability to our allies and even our enemies around the world,” said Johnson. The “big and beautiful bill of President Trump will be approved, and that will be the key to changing this. We have to do this, and only shows more the urgency of why we are doing exactly what we are doing with the legislation.”
