Tallahassee, Florida – A man convicted of kidnapping a woman in Miami and then strangled her to death will be executed next month under a death order Governor Ron Desantis signed on Monday.
Michael Tanzi, 48, is scheduled to be executed on April 8 in Florida state prison.
Janet Acosta sat inside his truck staked in April 2000 when Tanzi attacked her and threatened her with a razor blade, according to judicial documents. Tanzi finally led to an isolated area of Cudjoe Key, where he strangled Acosta and left his body, authorities said. He then led Key West to visit his friends. When Tanzi made his way between the keys, Acosta’s friends reported that his disappearance. The police recognized the woman’s truck and arrested Tanzi.
