San Antonio – Florida and Walter Clayton Jr. somehow surpassed the defense of Houston’s spirit on Monday night to get a 65-63 victory in a thriller of the NCAA title game that did not decide until Clayton’s Own D prevented the Couchars from having a chance that won the game on the bell.
Clayton ended with 11 points, all in the second half, but what will be most remembered was to get Emanuel Sharp de Houston to stop in the middle of his movement while trying to climb the 3 winners of the game in recent seconds.
Clayton ran to him, Sharp dropped the ball and, unable to pick it up, so that he was not called to travel, he saw him bounce there while the clock marked zero.
Will Richard had 18 points to keep the Gators (36-4) in him, and won their third general title and first since 2007. The Cougars (35-5) and coach Kelvin Sampson denied their first championship.
