Beijing – The China Ministry of Commerce said Friday that Beijing is evaluating multiple approaches by the Trump administration for commercial conversations.
However, in a ministry statement, he said that unilateral tariffs of up to 145% remain an obstacle, undermining trust.
The statement reiterated the position of China that is open to conversations, but also that Beijing is determined to fight if necessary.
“The United States unilaterally initiated commercial and commercial wars, if the American side wants to speak, it should show its sincerity and be ready to take measures on issues such as correcting incorrect practices and canceling the unilateral imposition of tariffs,” he said.
The statement quoted an unidentified ministry spokesman saying that Beijing had taken note of several statements by high -American officials who indicate a willingness to negotiate tariffs.
“At the same time, the United States has recently taken the initiative to transmit information to the Chinese side several times through relevant parts, hoping to speak with the Chinese side. In this regard, the Chinese side is doing an evaluation, he said.
But he emphasized that China would consider oberturas without a change in the acute increases of tariffs of President Donald Trump as insinceries.
“Saying one thing but doing another, or even trying to participate in coercion and blackmail under the appearance of conversations, will not work on the Chinese side,” he said.
China is in the middle of a holiday, with closed government offices.
Beijing has responded to Trump’s tariff increases by increasing his own tariffs in imports of US products to up to 125%. He has also adjusted the restrictions on exports to the US of certain strategically important minerals and has stopped importing a wide range of American agricultural products.
