Athens, Georgia – Two Venezuelan brothers Man who killed Georgia’s nursing student Laken Riley will be deported along with his former roommate after they declared themselves guilty of having false green cards, federal authorities say.
José Ibarra, 27, was convicted in November of murder and other crimes in the murder of Riley and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of probation in a case that became a point of inflammation about immigration. His brother Diego Ibarra, 29, was arrested after giving a falsified green card to a police officer investigating the murder of February 2024, the Department of Justice said.
Another brother, Argenis Ibarra, 25, and his former roommate, Rosbeli Flores-Bello, 29, admitted to having false green cards, and the agents found falsified social security cards for them in the apartment they shared with Diego and José Ibarra, the department added in a press release.
Diego Ibarra was sentenced Wednesday to four years in a federal prison after declaring himself in July two positions to own a fraudulent document. It must be transferred to the custody of immigration and the application of customs, or ICE, for deportation after completing its sentence, the department said.
Argenis and Flores-Bello were sentenced on Wednesday after declaring themselves guilty in December of a charge of possessing a fraudulent document. They should be delivered immediately to ice for deportation, according to the press release. The statement did not explain those deportation plans.
Federal authorities said they believe Diego Ibarra is affiliated with the Venezuelan gang Aragua train Based on his multiple tattoos and photos on his social networks making posters and wearing clothes associated with the gang.
