Indian Wells, California – Ben Shelton became the youngest American man from Andy Roddick in 2004 to reach the quarterfinals at the BNP Paribas Open, surpassing Brandon Nakashima in running sets on Wednesday.
Shelton, 22, sailed on the second set of a 7-6 (6), 6-1 victory. After a 61-minute opening set, he took a 5-0 advantage in just 20 minutes on the decisive set. The eleventh Shelton has not dropped a set in five career games against Nakashima, a 23 -year -old American.
On the women’s side, the sown No. 3 Coco Gound was annoying in the 16 round Bencic not sown. Swiss’s 28-year-old bunning recovered for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Bencic returned the favor to the Australian Open in January, when Gound won after dropping the first set. The defeat occurred the day before Gound’s 21st birthday since the 2023 Open champion broke in 4-4 on the final set after climbing 40.
Goorf fought his service throughout the tournament and had eight double offenses against Bencic, with only four Aces.
The champion of the Australian Open Madison Keys, seed No. 3, recovered for a 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3 Victoria over Donna Vekic. The 30-year-old American extended his winning streak to 15 games after continuing 5-3 and being two points of the defeat in the second set.
Aryna Sabalenka, better sown, went to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sonay Kartal, who faced an opponent classified in the top 10 for the first time.
Jack Draper of Great Britain beat Taylor Fritz, a third American, a previous champion at Indian Wells-7-5, 6-4. Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina exceeded the Australian Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3.
