Denver – At the end of the fall of 2023, Kristil Krug received a text message that sought to be an old boyfriend and ask if he would like to “connect” while he was in the city. She did not respond.
Other messages followed, often angry and obscene, including one that refers to his “loser husband” and others that indicated that he was being observed.
A few weeks after the initial text, she was found fatally stabbed and beaten in her suburban house in Denver.
Opening statements could come as soon as Friday at the trial of man that prosecutors say he really sent the messages and then killed Krug: her husband.
Daniel Krug, 44, is accused of first -degree murder, harassment and criminal impersonation in the death of his wife in Broomfield.
His lawyers, Joseph Morales and Phillip Andrew Geigle, did not respond to a call for comments.
Krug was arrested on December 16, 2023, two days after his wife was found on the floor of his garage by a police officer. While he was at work with the State Health Department, he had asked the Police to do a social assistance control, saying that he did not respond to his text messages.
Three of the house surveillance cameras, which Kristil Krug’s mother said he installed due to recent harassment, did not register when he was found, according to the affidavit of arrest. The garage was covered with tape.
The video of the cameras in the neighboring houses did not show any unknown person to enter the house in the hours before they found it, according to the document.
Kristil Krug had contacted the police about the messages, who thought he came from the ex -boyfriend. After they killed her, the police tracked the IP address for the texts to the workplace of Daniel Krug, according to the affidavit.
At the time of murder, the ex -boyfriend was eight hours by car in Utah, where he lived, said the affidavit. He is not suspicious.
Krug’s mother told police that her daughter’s relationship with her husband was not good and that she wanted to divorce and look for the total custody of her three children.
Krug, had a title in biochemical engineering and a satisfactory career in technology and innovation, as well as a passion for performing arts and modern dance, according to its obituary.
“She achieved a lot in her short life, and she had much left to contribute before being so wildly eliminated,” he said. “The world will miss what he had not yet given us.”
