San Luis — Spencer Torkelson had a couple of hits, walked twice and led a race to help Tigers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 on Wednesday for Detroit’s 15th victory in his last 20 games.
Bant Hurter allowed a hit in three goals in his second start of the race, and Chase Lee (1-0) continued with two goals to obtain his first victory in the big leagues, since the Tigers used six pitchers in a Bullpen game.
Andre Pallante (4-3) allowed three races and four hits and four balls for balls in 5 2/3 tickets for his first defeat at home since September 10, 2024, against Cincinnati.
Willson Contreras had an RBI single in the central garden against Brenan Hanife to score Victor Scott II in the sixth entrance and reduce Detroit’s advantage to 3-1.
In the room, Torkelson aligned a double to the field warning track of the right center that bounced in the glove of Jordan Walker to score Riley Greene and expand the advantage of the Tigers at 2-0.
Pallante broadcast walks from an out to Torkelson and Greene before Colt Keith flew to the left garden at the top of the sixth to end Pallante’s day. Dillon Dingler stroked a single to the left garden from Phil Maton to put the Tigers ahead 3-0.
St. Louis lost for more than one race for the first time since he fell to the New York 9-3 Mets at home on May 2.
Tigres: Open a seven-game farm on Thursday night with RHP Jack Flaherty (2-5, 2.67 era) in front of Cleveland RHP Tanner Bibee (3-4, 4.06).
Cardinals: RHP Miles Mikolas (3-2, 3.77 Era) opposes Arizona RHP Zac Gallen (3-5, 5.14) in the first game of a three-game series on Friday night.
