Paris – The Civil Aviation Authority of France asked airlines to reduce flights at 40% at Paris airport on Sunday night after air traffic control systems suffered a breakdown.
The authority, known as DGAC, said in a statement that some “regulation” was needed that implies a significant reduction in the number of flights. The statement did not provide details about the cause of breakdown.
DGAC said their teams “are completely mobilized to restore normal operations as soon as possible.”
Paris Orly airport serves national and international flights, even for most European countries and the United States.
Flights to Spain, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland and several French cities were canceled on Sunday, while many others were delayed.
More than 33 million passengers traveled through the Paris Oral airport last year, approximately half of the number in Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, according to the figures published by the Paris Aerport operator.
