Riley Tiernan scored his second goal of the game in the eighth minute of the second half arrest time to give Angel City a 4-3 victory over the Spirit Washington in the National Women’s Soccer League on Friday night.
In another part of the NWSL, the Houston Dash fell 2-1 at home to Racing Louisville and the Reign of Seattle overcame the current 1-0 of Kansas City.
Tiernan opened the score in Audi Field with a quick ending from the center of the box in the eighth minute. Gisele Thompson scored a cross of his sister Alyssa Thompson in the 22nd minute to put the 2-0. It was the first time that the sisters combined for a goal in NWSL’s story.
The spiritual defender Esme Morgan scored his first NWSL goal in the 30th and Monday’s gift ended in an open network in 40 to put 2-2 in the half time.
Katie Zelem of Angel City did it 3-2 with a left shot in the 72nd minute, but the spirit again tied the second of the Morgan party.
Christen Press moved in a corner kick for the winner of Térnan, his fifth goal of the season.
Angel City’s interim coach (3-2-2), Sam Laity, received a red card after Tiernan’s winning goal. It is the first time that the Spirit (4-3-0) has lost two consecutive NWSL games since September 2023.
