Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Emaarion Boyd became the first minor leagues player in at least 20 years to steal six bases in a game without obtaining a blow when he achieved the feat for High-A Beloit (Wisconsin) against Cedar Rapids.
Boyd, Ninth Batting and playing in the central garden in the 10-0 victory on Wednesday night, arrived at the choice of a filter, walking and hitting through the field. He stole second and third base every time.
He walked again without any in the ninth entrance, but could not steal more bases because a corridor was in front of him.
“I thought it would be even crazier if I had eight,” Boyd told The Associated Press on Thursday. “I wish I could have had two more. It would have been really crazy then.”
Boyd was a selection of 11th round of the Philadelphia philis in the 2022 Major League amateur draft. He was part of a December trade for left -handed pitcher Jesús Luzardo That sent Boyd to the Miami Marlins.
The 21-year-old has 98 robberies in 203 minor leagues games, with 83 in 187 games during the 2023 and 2024 seasons on the coast of Clearwater and High-a Jersey.
“I really try to be better than the pitcher and receiver when I get to the base and get a jump good or perfect enough,” he said, “and then I use my talent given by God.”
According to MLB.com, no minor leagues because at least 2005 had stolen six bases without receiving a blow. Boyd also stole six bases in a game for Clearwater in 2023, but was successful.
No player has stolen six bases without successes in a major league game since at least 1901.
