Palm Beach, Florida – The owner of the Steelers, Art Rooney II, says that there are “positive signals” that Aaron Rodgers will play in Pittsburgh.
The four -time MVP of the NFL recently worked with the new open receiver of the Steelers DK Metcalf after visiting the team previously.
“We continue to listen to that it is directed in our direction, so it seems that all signals are positive so far,” Rooney told journalists at the NFL meetings on Tuesday.
The Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said on Monday that he remains in contact with Rodgers and feels comfortable with Mason Rudolph as the senior marshal.
“That’s why we brought him back,” Tomlin said. “I feel comfortable with that. And we have been there before.”
The Steelers allowed Russell Wilson (Giants) and Justin Fields (Jets) to leave in free agency and bring Rudolph back. Pittsburgh has not won a playoff game since it reached the game for the AFC title after the 2016 season.
The Steelers have the 21st General Selection in the Draft. The Mississippi field marshal, Jaxson Dart, is a possibility if the 41 -year -old rodgers sign with the team or not.
Rodgers is a free agent for the first time in his 20 -year career. He could be contemplating retirement, signing with the steelers or hoping that Minnesota’s Vikings express interest. The Vikings seem ready to go with JJ McCarthy.
“I didn’t imagine I took so long,” Rooney said about waiting for Rodgers.
He added that they will wait a little longer, but “not forever.”
