London – The manufacturers of Hit netflix show “teennce “They have caused a conversation on how to protect children from violent misogyny and other harmful content on social networks.
Now they have the ear of the British prime minister Keir Starmer, who welcomed the filmmakers to Downing Street on Monday to talk about child protection. The Starmer’s office said it supported a Netflix initiative to transmit the dramatic series for free for secondary schools throughout the country, so that as many children as possible they can see it.
The program, filmed in England, explores the difficult questions that arise when a 13 -year -old boy is accused of stabbing a girl in her school until death. It has been observed by more than 66 million people around the world since it was launched in early March.
Starmer said it was difficult to see the series with his 14 -year -old daughter and his 16 -year -old son. But showing it widely in schools “will help students better understand the impact of misogyny, the dangers of online radicalization and the importance of healthy relationships,” said his office.
Starmer added in a statement: “This is not a challenge for which politicians can simply legislate. Believe me, if I could throw a lever to solve it, I would do it.”
Jack Thorne, a program coguionist, said the team behind “adolescence” came to cause a conversation.
“So, having the opportunity to take this to schools is beyond our expectations,” he said. “We hope you will take teachers to talk to students, but what we really expect is for students to talk to each other.”
Stephen Graham, co -creator of the drama that stars in the child’s father, told Associated Press that he wanted the narrative to focus on the apparently ordinary life of the accused.
He said that when a crime with a knife among young people takes place, the first reaction can be to question the background of the murder suspect and how they raised.
“But what happens if it’s not the family?” He asked, he added: “We are all responsible. School. Society. Parents. Community.”
The success of “adolescence” has come during the growing concern for the use of children’s smartphones and the easy availability of extreme pornography and misogynist content in social networks pushed by influential people as Andrew Tate. Tate and his brother, Tristan, who are dual American and British citizens, face positions of human trafficking and form an organized criminal group to sexually exploit women.
Gavin Stephens, president of the National Police Chiefs Council, warned last week that “the harmful effect of Tate is clear to see.”
Police in the United Kingdom are now dealing with more than one million crimes related to violence against women and girls every year, or a fifth of all registered crimes.
