Spotsylvania County, Va. Three people died and three others were injured in a shooting in the northeast of Virginia on Tuesday night, and one or more shooters were loose, authorities said.
Around 5:30 pm, 911 calls arrived on a shooting in a complex of the city house in Spotsylvania County, on the outskirts of Fredericksburg and about 65 miles (105 kilometers) southwest of Washington, said the majority Elizabeth Scott, spokesman for the Sheriff Spotsylvania’s office.
The authorities urged people to avoid the area and those near the scene to remain inside while the authorities investigate, he said.
The shooting may have been committed by more than one person, according to Scott. There were no immediate arrests or publicly published information about a possible reason.
“There are dozens in dozens of officers who actively seek suspects and preserve the crime scene,” Scott said.
The three injured people were taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds. Their conditions and other information about them were not available immediately.
All victims were found outside, according to Scott.
“We will be here all night until we find the suspects,” he said during a night press conference.
The authorities also requested witnesses to send any video that could help research.
The public schools of the city of Fredericksburg announced on their website that schools would begin two hours on Wednesday night “in the light of the deep impact that this incident has had on the members of our school community.”
“This delay will allow us the necessary time to prepare our buildings and personnel to welcome students with the care and support they may need during this difficult time,” the statement said.
The district gave no more details.
