Santa Ana, California — A student was killed and two were injured in a stabbing in front of a high school in southern California on Wednesday, authorities said.
The three male students of Santa Ana High were taken to a hospital, where one of them died and the other two were in stable condition, according to the city police spokeswoman, Natalie García.
The stabbing occurred in the afternoon when the students left school for the day, said the Fermin Leal district spokesman. The incident involved both students and non -students.
The authorities were looking for at least two suspects whose connection with the school and the reason were not clear, Garcia said.
Other details, such as the ages of the victims, were not immediately made public.
The programs and athletics after school were canceled, and the authorities said the school would make crisis counselors available on Thursday.
Santa Ana is a city of approximately 300,000 people approximately 30 miles (50 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles. The school serves approximately 3,000 students.
